Historically Good Wood. Authentic American Craftsmanship.
American Barnwood is a reclaimed barn wood lumberyard located in Paso Robles, California, serving California’s Central Coast and beyond. Our inventory is sourced from historic Midwestern barns built in the 1800s, offering access to authentic, old-growth wood with character, strength, and history that modern lumber can’t replicate.
We supply reclaimed barnwood to contractors, builders, designers, architects, homeowners, and woodworkers—from large commercial projects and recurring professional needs to one-of-a-kind residential builds and hobby craftsmanship. If you’re looking for distinctive, high-quality materials from America’s past, you’ll find them here.
Materials with Character and Versatility
Our yard features a wide selection of reclaimed materials, including hand-hewn and rough-sawn beams, structural planks, weathered barn siding, corrugated metal, and antique barn hardware. These materials can be repurposed for fireplace mantels, decorative beams, rustic shelving, warm accent walls, doors, wainscoting, furniture, and countless custom applications.
Every piece carries natural variation, patina, and texture earned over generations of use—making each project truly unique.
Preserving America’s Agricultural Heritage
As farming methods have modernized, many historic barns no longer serve their original purpose and are disappearing from the American landscape. Without reclamation, much of this material would end up in landfills.
American Barnwood works directly with Amish barn-salvage crews who carefully dismantle these structures by hand, preserving as much usable material as possible while honoring the craftsmanship of the original builders. Most of the reclaimed wood is of exceptional quality and well suited for reuse.
We also collaborate with an academic historian who researches the story behind each barn—when it was built, the families who worked the land, the crops that were raised, and how the structure evolved over time. With your purchase, you receive a printed history of the barn your wood came from, often including historic photographs.
Build with History and Purpose
By choosing reclaimed barn wood, you’re doing more than selecting a material—you’re helping preserve a piece of America’s farming heritage. Together, we honor the legacy of the hardworking farmers and families who shaped our country, while giving their materials new life in today’s homes and spaces.
